Review Criteria
In order to earn a positive review, companies must meet several criteria.
- First and foremost, they must deliver quality written work. We check this by reading all customer feedback and comments that we can find. The site posts testimonials; some feedback has been submitted to our review site, and some comments we have found elsewhere on the web.
- Products comply with customer specifications and are delivered on time.
- Customer support is responsive, is professional, and can answer our detailed questions
- Information about employment procedures for writers, as well as their backgrounds and expertise
- Prices, in comparison with other writing services
- Written policies and guarantees are in place
- Payment procedures and safe and secured
Factor 1: Types of Writing Services Offered
To read the website content, visitors will assume that all of the writing done for customers is related in some way to business needs. In fact, the “services” link lists only book reviews and presentations that could be considered academic writing.
The fact is, Writology offers all kinds of academic writing. But no student would know this until he gets to the actual order page. Most will bounce out before that, assuming that this is a writing service only for businesses.
When we did go into the order form, we saw a full list of subject fields and types of writing – essays, papers, case studies, reviews and analyses, coursework assistance, and even theses and dissertations.
There are two types of product ordering processes. A customer may place an order and have the company choose one of its registered writers to fill it. Or, a customer can post his order and accept bids from freelance writers who are registered on the site and choose his own.
In both instances, the writers used are freelancers.
Factor 2: Trust and Reliability
Based on our experience, and some of the research that we conducted, we do believe this company is trustworthy. There were no reports of any fraudulent behavior. They at the very least produce the work that they are paid to, and most customers state that their instructions are followed and that they received their orders on time. In terms of reliability, we encourage people to read the remainder of this review and draw their own conclusions.
Factor 3: Level of Quality
Here is where things get a bit murky.
- Some Writology customers have been satisfied with the products they have received.
- Some customers are moderately happy
- Some customers are not happy at all.
Reasons given for dis-satisfaction are poor quality writing (grammatical, structural, and word usage errors), resources that did not fit the academic level or that were outdated, some lack of responsiveness, and the lack of company intervention when there are issues or problems.
This is a wide array of problems. Given that some customers are satisfied, though, leads us to believe that quality depends wholly upon the writer who is chosen.
Speaking of essay writers again, they are all freelancers. They are allowed to register as writers on the site without company investigation into declared backgrounds and expertise. We get the feeling that Writology administrators believe that poor writers will ultimately be “weeded out.” In the meantime, though, lots of customers can get poor quality.
Factor 4: Pricing and Payment
Because there is a bidding process in place, there are no standard prices. Even when a company selects the writer, the customer must approve of the price from that writer. The price for a product depends wholly on what is agreed upon between customer and writer. And, if a customer happens to be good at negotiating, perhaps he can get a better price. For the industry, though, prices seem to be in the high-average range.
Payment methods are by major bank cards and PayPal. The company does use a third-party processor that is SSL-certified. Payments are safe and secured with the latest technology. Writology does not collect financial information of its customers.
Factor 5: Additional Important Considerations
There are policies in place that guarantee privacy/confidentiality, customer satisfaction, communication between customer and writer, and revisions. There is also a Terms and Conditions Policy that covers the legal aspects of the company and its relationships with customers.
What customers must realize is that Writology administrators play a very passive role in actually day-to-day business operations. They provide a customer support department, but we did not find it especially helpful. When we expressed concern about a product, we were told to take it up with our writer.
There is a section on the Writology.com website dedicated to the purchase of pre-written products. We would caution against this, due to obvious plagiarism risks.
There is a blog, but all of the articles, although fairly well-written, relate to business rather than academics.
There are also extras that can be purchased during the ordering process. Customers can order a plagiarism check or VIP customer support, for example.
Concluding Comments
While we did find some positives, our final rating of Writology is below average. While we appreciated that their website is well designed and easy to use, the simple fact is there is no quality control over the writers who are registered on the site, the company does not take an active role in the operations, and students who use this service risk choosing a poor writer. Overall, we give this company a rating of 2, on a 1-5-point scale.
